Dear House,
I just wanted to say “thank you.” For taking me in and giving me shelter. For warm winter fires and cool summer breezes. For snow drifts and icicles. For crocus and lilies of the valley and daisies and roses. For squirrels and birds and that one little chipmunk that came to say goodbye. For surprises and treasures from basement and barn, attic and cupboard. For your amazing light and all the photo ops. For fulfilling some lifelong yearnings over the past seven and a half months.
‘Bye, House. I’ll never forget you.
Love,
Me
Linking with Kat Sloma’s Photo-Heart Connection. I moved into my new apartment July 1, so I’m surrounded by the chaos of My Life in boxes, but didn’t want to miss posting this month.

Leon, you had tears in my eyes with your farewell letter to this old house. I hope, in time, your new home will feed your soul and creative spirit the way this house has.

Hey, I’m still here. Don’t forget to write! 🙂

This is such a warm and comforting picture. How sad that you have moved out. I haven’t been on-line much this year so if you’ve talked about moving, I’m not aware of the reason why you moved out of this lovely home. I agree with Carol Craley’s comment. And might I ad that your home is where your heart is and I’ve seen that you have a knack to make your home where ever you are. Good luck with all the change this move brings and I look forward to seeing new pictures of your new home. Happy summer!

I knew my stay would be temporary when I moved in last fall. I needed a place to stay when I moved back from California, and my daughter already lived upstairs in this house. The owners kindly offered me the downstairs over the winter, with the understanding that the house would be going on the market in the spring. Now I’ve moved into a permanent (I hope) place of my own. I’m very tired of boxes!

Lovely, Lee! Does that mean Jen and El Boyfriendo have to move too?

You have so many wonderful photographic memories from this house. It was the right place at the right time. I know you will continue to make new photographic memories at your new place.

Oooh, great post. Bittersweet and lovely. An awesome photo. In this house you produced some magical images-over and over again, yet each unique. Hoping your new home soon feels like “home”.

How touching, how lovely – all that this old house meant to you on your return to Maine. It sounds like it was the perfect place to come home to.

What a beautiful post this is, Lee.
I am sure that the move was bittersweet, and I am hoping that once “My Life in Boxes” is over, you will come to love your new home just as much.
Happy day to you, my friend! xo.

Beautiful post! I fell in love with the house, too! Old windows, beautiful lighting, gorgeous floors. I know you’ll miss it, but I also know that very soon you’ll be at home in your apartment and we’ll be seeing the beauty of where you’re living now!

Oh, that is such a lovely place! Sorry your life is in chaos (I know how that feels, still dealing with the kitchen) but hopefully GOOD stuff is on the other side. Thanks for sharing in the Photo-Heart Connection!

Lovely letter, lovely old house. I guess I didn’t realize that Jen lived upstairs. I totally pictured her living somewhere else, some place more rustic and with a deck. (I’m not sure why.) Happy getting settled in your new home!

Ah, so many beautiful memories in that old house. Your photograph captures its beauty so well. I know you must be missing it, but I hope you’re settling into your new place.

I can see why you loved your temporary home, and I’m sure it knew it had an appreciative audience.
I’m very behind on blog reading (vacation + the resultant catch-up period), so wishing you an easy move is probably way out of date. Instead, I’ll wish you peace, safety, and a good neighbor or two. Take care…

What a beautiful homage, in words and image, to this special house. I ‘ve enjoyed your photos, taken there, over the last few months — it is a special place. Wishing you comfort and peace in your new home…..hope to see some photos of it soon.

This is a lovely interior. I was captured half a year ago and I hope you enjoy your new apartment – and hopefully you life is not in a box any more. 🙂
