Happy Holidays!

Waterlogue-2014-12-24-20-14-13Winter Berries

Wishing you all the joys of the season, whatever holiday you may celebrate this time of year. For me it’s Christmas. It’s also the relief of knowing the shortest day of the year is past and the light is returning to this half of the world bit by bit, day by day.

For now, the long nights invite nesting, curling up with a good book and a hot drink, tossing another log on the fire. Pausing to take stock of the year soon to end, and making plans for the one soon to come. And at the end of the day, there’s the pleasure of slipping gratefully into bed, aware of and thankful for how blessed I truly am.

I’m grateful for you all, dear friends near and far, for the connections we’ve made and the encouragement we share through this amazing online community. May you find peace, love, and joy, now and in the new year.

First Time Scavenger

Well, I thought I’d give this Scavenger Hunt Sunday linkup, hosted by the lovely Ashley Sisk of Ramblings and Photos, a try. I love seeing everyone else’s Scavenger posts and it looks like fun, so here goes. This week’s items were:┬áSunset, Black and White, A Day in my Life, Four, Colorful.

Sunset Smoke

Sunset: I took this image from my living room window. You can blame any lack of sharpness on the two panes of glass and a screen that were between my camera and the outside. What can I say? It was COLD.

Personal Space

Black and White: A flock of pigeons on some power lines, each one fluffed up against the cold. You’d think they’d want to be closer together for warmth, but maybe it doesn’t work that way for birds.

Not Exactly a Cubicle

A Day in My Life: Behind this desk is where I spend most of my waking hours, Monday through Friday.

2 + 2 = 4

Four: Well, I didn’t have four images I wanted to use, and don’t really know how to make a montage anyway, though I could probably figure it out if I really tried. Here’s my alternate take on it – a pair of wine glasses and their shadows in the late afternoon light.

Colorful: I love the contrast of these bright red berries against the soft, blue-water background.

What do you know? That really WAS fun! Now, let’s see if I can figure out the linky . . . .

On Our Walk

My daughter and I are in the middle of a week-long vacation. Last night it rained. This morning the wet earth and trees smelled like I imagine Heaven will. The mountains were wrapped in tendrils of fog and clouds.

By late morning, the overcast grey skies had transformed into deep blue scattered with shining white drifts of cloud. We set out for a walk.

We passed through this gate…

and came upon a pond.

As we walked around it, these are some of the things we found:

Some interesting trees to identify later

A beaver lodge (missing from the picture: the great blue heron that flew away as we approached)

Black-Eyed Susans everywhere

The tiniest frog EVER

A beautiful feather, downy and soft

My favorite view of the pond

The circle complete, we went back to our temporary home away from home for lunch and a well-earned nap.
